Hospitality
Mission Statement
The purpose of the Louise De Marillac Fund is to bring the St. Vincent de Paul Albany mission of courageous hospitality to life in our communities through progressive, innovative, and creative leadership and outreach.
St. Louise DeMarillac
St. Louise De Marillac, (1591 – 1660) after whom our special fund to support innovative projects is named, met St. Vincent De Paul in 1625. He became her spiritual advisor. She devoted the rest of her life to working with him, helping to direct the Ladies of Charity in their work of caring for the sick, poor and neglected. In 1633 she set up a training center in her own home for candidates seeking to help in the work. This was the beginning of the Sisters (Daughters) of Charity, a religious community of women, innovative in its day for its public, rather than cloistered life.
